Two New Members Join the Growing Matchup Team

With the new year came two new Matchup team members. As our product continued to evolve and our user base grew it was crucial to add two new members to the team. We couldn’t be more thrilled to add these two talented and hardworking individuals to our Matchup family! Ever since they have joined they’ve become huge assets to our business and culture alike. They’re pretty awesome and we know you’ll think so too!

Without further ado, a huge welcome to our two new members, Isaac and Gilbert!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born and raised in Southern California and came to Chicago about 6 years ago for college. I just got married to the best gal in town and have been enjoying spending time together. I’m interested in music, theology, aesthetics, coffee, beer and technology.

After college I decided to teach myself basic web development skills and went through a few months at a coding “bootcamp”. After graduation I decided to do some free-lance work and build a portfolio. Somehow, by the grace of God (literally)– I landed this sweet, sweet gig and have been enjoying the day to day customer/tech support role and being mentored by the developers.

What is something most people wouldn’t have guessed about you?

People wouldn’t have guessed that I was a touring artist for a Metal band from high school to my early twenties.

What is your favorite thing to do?

My favorite things to do is eat. Always.

What would your last meal on earth be?

My last meal on earth would be a burger from Owen and Engine (Best burger I’ve ever had). It beats – Au Cheval and Kuma’s whatever….

What inspires you?

I am inspired by my wife. She is a super kind and hard working gal, who loves and treats people with mad respect.

If you could choose any trail around the world to trek, where would it be and why?

If I could choose any trail in the world to Trek, I would choose the Kungsleden Trail in Sweden because of its beauty.

What app couldn’t you live without?

 I couldn’t live without WAZE.

What’s your spirit animal?

My spirit animal is a Wolf.

Who is your favorite music artist?

My favorite music artist is Delta Spirit.

What’s your favorite part about working at Matchup?

The best part about working at Matchup is the people. They are by far the most genuine, hardworking and encouraging group of people to be around. They make work not feel like work. They all come from different places with unique stories and bring something different to the table.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m a transplant from Los Angeles, California. I relocated to Chicago as soon as I got the opportunity to do so after graduating college. I’ve lived in the Windy City for about two years now and I’m still loving every single minute of it.

What is something most people wouldn’t have guessed about you?

I am deathly afraid of snakes. Snakes, and they’re potential sneak attacks are constantly on my mind when I’m out on hikes.

What is your favorite thing to do?

Netflix and chill, in the most literal sense of the phrase. Throw some tacos in there for good measure.

What would your last meal on earth be?

A Double-Double Burger from In-N-Out, with Animal fries!

What inspires you?

I know this is such a cliché, but my mother is my ultimate source of inspiration. Never have I seen a woman work so hard in her life to provide so much for her family and children. She is such a “luchona”, as they say in Spanish, or a fighter. I strive every single day to make her proud.

If you could choose any trail around the world to trek, where would it be and why?

Easy! The Pacific Crest Trail. It traverses California, Oregon, and Washington State, beginning at a small California town near the U.S.-Mexico border and ending similarly, near the U.S.-Canada border. Simply put, I would do it for the experience. Not to mention the challenge and bragging rights that come along with it.

What app couldn’t you live without?

The Transit app! That thing is a lifesaver for those of us who rely on public transport.

What are your favorite podcast or blogs you like to follow?

“The Data Skeptic”, for all things data and analytics, Slate’s “Political Gabfest”, for all things politics and “Risk!” Where people go to tell true stories they never thought they’d share, for all things funny and outrageous.

What’s your spirit animal?

According to that online survey I took just now, my spirit animal is the snake. “You are the sought out friend when advice is needed. The snake facilitates life events to go smoothly – a connector of dots who reveals the big picture.”  Fairly accurate, I would say. And the irony isn’t lost on me.

What’s your favorite part about working at Matchup?

Simple, the people. The team is made up of an amazing group of passionate, talented, and most of all, welcoming individuals that make coming in to work every morning an absolute joy.

Welcome you two! We’re thrilled to have you on board for this wild ride!
