Blueberries.

Greens.

Spinach, and other such green vegetables contain folate, which produces a pleasure inducing brain chemical called dopamine. Dopamine helps you keep calm. Higher folate content in your system results in lower risks of depression. 

Fish.

High stress levels can hike the anxiety hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol in your body. Salmon contains omega-3 fatty acids, which have anti-inflammatory properties, which act against the negative effects of stress hormones.

Nuts. 

Pistachios reduce stress by lowering blood pressure and heart rate, calming you down. Cashews are rich in zinc, which reduces anxiety levels. It would reduce irritability and lack of concentration, leading to an improved and productive life.

Fruits.

If you have a massive burst of stress eating impulse, grab an avocado. Avocados provide close to 20 essential nutrients such as potassium, vitamin E & B, and folate. Studies show that avocado is filling, and consequently keeps you from over eating. Having a diet with more fruits and vegetables will make you feel calmer and more energetic throughout the day.

Dark Chocolate.

Who’s your best friend when you feel down and out? Chocolates, of course! But try replacing the regular ones with the dark variety. The antioxidants in dark chocolate would lower your blood pressure levels and help combat stress. A piece or two should be enough to refresh you.

Turkey.

Turkey is rich in tryptophan, which is always blamed for the sleep inducing effect after Thanksgiving. But tryptophan also produces serotonin that brings a calming effect with a feeling of happiness. Serotonin regulates the mood and a deficit of serotonin leads to depression.

Yogurt.

This might sound unbelievable, but the bacteria in your gut might sometimes lead to stress. Eating probiotic rich yogurt twice a day would work wonders in reducing stress.  

Milk.

Low levels of Vitamin D can lead to increased risk of panic and depression. Milk is a fantastic source of Vitamin D, which can uplift your mood and make you happy.

Oatmeal.

Go for a bowl of oatmeal if you are craving for carbohydrates. They help produce serotonin without increased risk of spiking your blood sugar level. Drop in few blueberries in it.
