Future of Wearables: What do you want to be automatically tracked?

In the age of the quantified self, automatic step, distance and active minutes tracking is a given. Sleep, weight and exercise tracking is a plus and everything else requires multiple devices or technology that’s not in the market, yet.

We turn to wearables to better understand our overall health. Daily data monitoring over time gives us a deeper dive into our patterns, habits or lack thereof. What are we doing right and what do we need to work on to improve our long-term health?

A 2016 CSS Insight survey turned to over 2,000 individuals who owned wearable devices in the UK and US, aged 16-65, to get to the bottom of how we’re using wearables now and where we want to see them grow in the future. Is the current activity and sleep data enough? The survey results proved in the scheme of a healthier lifestyle, these points are only just the beginning of what individuals would like to see tracked.

According to Wareble’s survey analysis, participants hope to see the future of wearables to cater to wearables automatically tracking sleep quality, calories consumed and burned, and stress levels. 49% of individuals chose “how well I sleep”,  45% said stress tracking and 44% wanted to automatically track calories burned and consumed.

We couldn’t agree more. And yes, there are already some devices on the market that “do” just this, but how accurate are they? Accuracy and trust in these data points will hopefully be of the highest priority as we move forward. Technology has come a long way, and still has a long way to go. But surveys like these help to shape the direction in which we move. What’s for sure is that individuals are looking to better understand, even more than before, their emotional and physical health. Along with better sleep quality, consumption and stress tracking, we’d love to see emotion and hydration to be automatically tracked as we make strides in the future of wearables.

And now we’re asking you. For the future of wearables, what do you want to see automatically tracked for the better of your long-term health?
