“4 Weeks to a Healthier You” Week 1 Goal: Drink More Water!

Today marks the official kickoff for the “4 Weeks to a Healthier You Challenge“.

If you’re participating, we’re encouraging you to level up and hit some additional healthy habit goals. Our first weekly challenge goal? Drink more water!

Every week for the next four weeks, check back here on the Matchup blog for an additional weekly goal to supplement your stepping, all in effort toward your healthiest May yet.

The Week One Goal

For the next seven days, all challengers should aim to drink at least 64 ounces of water per day. Why? Because hydration is essential to help your body run properly, and that, truly, is the goal of this challenge.

This week, aim to consume just water — sparkling is OK; soda is not. Although coffee and brewed unsweetened tea count toward your daily hydration needs (coffee is not dehydrating, as was once believed), try to focus on plain ol’ H2O if you can. Sixty-four ounces isn’t the perfect amount for everyone, but it is a good benchmark. If you feel better drinking more, have at it.

Four Reasons to Drink More Water

  1. Water makes you happy. Without adequate hydration, you can feel fatigued and even irritable. Oftentimes, when you’re dragging at your desk, it’s because you are thirsty, not under-caffeinated.
  2. Water can curb overeating. We frequently mistake thirst for hunger. Next time, you feel the urge to munch, drink a glass of water. Wait 20 minutes to see how you feel.
  3. Water can help you focus. Studies have shown drinking water aids with concentration and performance.
  4. Water improves your health from the inside out. From digestion to kidney function, from sore muscles to skin health, plenty of H2O is what helps your body’s systems work.
